NYLI Inc conducts Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Training, empowers young people to provide peer support in Negros Occidental

The Negrosanon Young Leaders Institute (NYLI) Inc., in collaboration with the Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation and Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU), successfully conducted “Thriving Together,” a comprehensive training program on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for Young People held last July 8, 2023, at Negros Residences, Bacolod City.

The training aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills to become peer educators and support providers in their communities. Dr. Aileen Tranquilo, the Counselor Designate of CHMSU, served as a resource speaker, providing fundamental training on mental health and psychosocial support, including psychological first-aid. The participants gained valuable insights into understanding and addressing mental health issues among young individuals.

Jomar Borromeo, NYLI Inc’s Program Director, shared his expertise in providing trauma-informed care, highlighting the crucial role of sensitivity and empathy when assisting individuals who have experienced traumatic events. His session equipped participants with practical tools and strategies to offer compassionate support to those in need.

Dr. Tranquilo emphasized the significance of the training program for the negrosanon youth, stating, “For the Negrosanon youth, this will capacitate them to become not just the first responders but to empower others to help the community with their mental and psychosocial health needs.”

Participant and CHMSU alumnus Rhamwell Belonio shared his experience of the training, expressing his appreciation for the opportunity to learn about mental health and provide psychosocial support, especially to the victims of different calamities in their community.

“Thriving Together” reflects NYLI’s unwavering dedication to improving mental health and psychosocial support for young individuals. By equipping young people with the necessary knowledge and skills, NYLI aspires to create a supportive and inclusive environment where mental health is prioritized.
