The Negrosanon Young Leaders’ Institute (NYLI) proudly announces a significant policy victory achieved through youth-led representation in the Negros Island Regional Development Council (NIR-RDC).
As a Private Sector Representative to the NIR-RDC, NYLI successfully advocated for the strengthening of child protection mechanisms, ensuring their inclusion in the crucial Negros Island Regional Development Plan (NIR-RDP) for 2026-2028. This important policy commitment is specifically outlined under Outcome 6: “Welfare of Children Enhanced” (see page 66 of the RDP).
This achievement elevates child protection from a localized initiative to a central, formalized strategy within the region’s three-year development blueprint, ensuring dedicated resources and synchronized efforts from various government agencies and stakeholders moving forward.
This milestone demonstrates the critical role of youth-led representation in shaping regional development. By placing young people and children at the center-stage of development, we have secured a definitive roadmap for a safer, more nurturing future for every child in Negros Island.
We celebrate this success with our tireless partners in the Agubay Child Protection Alliance and all champions of children’s welfare.
NYLI actively participates as a member of the NIR-RDC Full Council and the Social Development Committee, utilizing its access to civic and democratic spaces to advocate for this vital agenda.
With this, the institute remains committed to inspiring hope and building inclusive and sustainable Filipino communities by engaging young leaders in high-level policy-making.
NYLI and its partners now look forward to actively monitoring and supporting the effective implementation of the newly adopted measures across the region.
